Summary

The story of UberQuest follows Sesame, her life is turned upside down after her village is attacked by a group of raiders, her father is slaughtered in the mayhem. Homeless and alone, she embarks on a quest to find her sister Soya who will hopefully aid in finding out more information and enacting vengeance on behalf of her home. Along the way, she runs into a mage-in-training named Kibbles (Kibella), who was tasked by her teacher Grand Mage Winsley to seek out Sesame and follow her. Later, during a fight, they run into a mysterious futuristic teleporter holding Claire, an eccentric engineer, and her robot companion Proto, eager to return home.

The three also run into Farron ,a shady merchant rat out to get rich, and Mason a weary blacksmith venturing out on his own for the first time. Meanwhile, at the capitol of the Kingdom of Alder (Northon), Kylar a skilled archer and high-ranking knight, finds himself tasked with a covert mission to find a noble from Prince Drayven, who is next in line to the throne. Prince Drayven is approached by the ex-royal-mage and now Necromancer, Valmont, to make a secret allegiance to gain political power, using their undead army. King Alphonse Alder rules his Kingdom with an iron-fist, known as the mad King, he is becoming increasingly contentious.

An uprising rebellion, the Severance, lead by Captain Kilika Azura is directly opposed to King Alphonse's rule and actively fighting against it. Various factions and Kingdoms seem interested in ancient-artifacts known more commonly as Ubers. As well as a mysterious group is known as Zysa lead by a figure only known as The Omni. Along the way, the group finds themselves entangled in a world that is increasingly treacherous, with a war on the horizon, factions gaining power with an arms-race for the power source of the Ubers all while the past of Evyr is slowly unveiled.

-What is UberQuest even about? Is it furry? Are you Furries?

UberQuest is a mature fantasy/sci-fi drama exploring the politics of war, the mysteries of ancient relics known as Ubers, and the lives of those struggling to survive in a fractured world.

Yes, the comic features anthromorphic animal people - so I suppose it qualifies as 'furry'.

Skidd and Phuufy enjoy the artistic aspects of the furry-fandom and we do not participate in fursuiting, roleplay or other aspects of the fanspace. We're just here to make cool art. So yes, but in the most basic ways one could be a "furry".

-What are Ubers? Are they related to taxis or food delivery?

Phuufy originally came up for the name UberQuest back in 2007 before Uber the taxi service or UberEats was a thing, so it's not really related to that! Ubers are relics that act like amplifiers for those who wield them. Kind of battery-esque. So the characters are on a Quest for the Ubers (relics).. thus the name.

-Why is the comic rated mature? Does it have porn in it?

UberQuest explores mature themes as a war-driven drama, including violence, substance use, sexuality, coarse language, and challenging psychological topics. It is a story for adults.

No—UberQuest isn’t a porn comic. It does feature mature themes, relationships, and suggestive moments, but anything regarding explicit nudity or sex is tastefully implied or censored.

-Where does the story take place? What is the time period?

UberQuest takes place on the fictional world of Evyr (pronounced Ever). It does not follow the historical timeline of Earth. UberQuest is a fantasy story with steam-punk elements, the tech available is about what you'd see in the 1800s.

-How do you make the comic? What is the process or programs used?

We use the program Clip Studio to digitally ink, color and letter all our comics. Though we used to use Paint Tool SAI. Phuufy uses a 13" Cintiq from Wacom and Skidd uses a 22" Huion Kamvas Plus.

Phuufy has an outline of the plot written out, with various plot beats. Then form scripts for each page, usually scripts go through many revisions before being finalized. Either Phuufy or Skidd will work to thumbnail and rough sketch them out. Skidd will ink them and occassionally flat color them. Phuufy then does all the shading and most of the background details. Skidd will then letter them, read the script and make edits. Then we upload to various platforms and social media.

-How much of the story is written out? Does UberQuest have an ending?

Yes, the entire story's plot is written from beginning to end, but we leave enough wiggle room between chapter plot-beats for changes if we come up with something better.

We've proposed it may take around 20 chapters to complete the story.But as to a specific end date or time, we are not sure. We will continue to make the comics as long as we possibly can until it reaches it conclusion. We think it may take around 1,300-1,500 pages to complete.

-What inspired you to create UberQuest? Where do you come up with your ideas?

A multitude of things over the years! Fundamentally, we just love making art and entertaining people.
UberQuest has had many inspirations, the Lord of the Rings series, Game of Thrones, Final Fantasy, Studio Ghibli films and The Legend of Zelda being some of what we've drawn from over the years.

We've also been inspired by shows like Arcane, Attack on Titan, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Steven Universe, Back to the Future and many more!
As far as the creative process for ideas go, it's hard to explain.. we just remember things we liked from those shows and how we could apply them to our own story.

-When did UberQuest start?

UberQuest as a concept began all the way back in 2007, the original characters were Sesame,Kibbles,Claire, Dante and Soya. However, the comic officially launched on February 15th 2014. Every other character in the comic was made after that point.

-Will you put my OC (original character) in the comic?

Unless you are a special tier Patron or are apart of a certain special offer in the past for a cameo role, we cannot put your character in our comic. We have no interest in writing for other people's characters, plus that sort of thing comes with lots of potential difficulty and even legal problems.

-Are all the characters in the comic yours? Did you design all the characters?

Besides from background cameos, yes all the characters are ours. Phuufy designed all of the characters, outside of Mason and Kilika (designed by Skidd).

-Can I make Fanart/Fanfiction of UberQuest?

Please do, we'd love to see it!

-Where did you learn to draw or write? What school did you go to?

Skidd and Phuufy are self-taught artists and writers.We did not attend any art school.
There is plenty of great reading material and even Youtube channels that can help if you are interested in honing your craft in art or writing. Though practice and application are essential to growing.

-Can I make translation for UberQuest in other languages?

Please speak with us first. We however are not willing to pay for translations, though we do appreciate volunteer efforts to do so.

-Are you going to make UberQuest into an animated series? Are you going to make UberQuest into a video game?

While that would definitely be a dream come true, we like to think of those as high in the sky pie sort of dreams. Animated series, even to do a pilot take lots of money and time - the same is true with video games. While we have dabbled in animation, we aren't not professionals by any means. Making an animated series and/or video game is simply out of our wheelhouse of skillsets and far beyond our pay grade at the moment.

Though if an opportunity to do either ever arose and we were able to getting enough fan-funding we would certainly likely pursue it. Though making a video game or animated series would mean comics would likely stop.

-Do you attend conventions? Do you have merchandise, and can I buy it?

Sometimes! We usually attend furry conventions. We've attended Anthrocon (2016, 2018) Mid-West-FurFest (2017), Texas Furry Fiesta (2017) and Megaplex (2022).
